Write a thing that syncs folders between computers. We could start by using something like S3, but make it possible to write your own storage adapter for whatever you want

I had an unfinished project, where I started to working on a "Self-hosted Google Drive". For example if you have a RaspberryPI with an external driver, it's just create a webUI with proper security. You can find that here. Is this something what you wanted?
