Update the `master` branch with the status of this project #699

Is this still maintained? I see no activity for a while in master, and activity in the last year (but a while ago) in dev. Would be awesome to identify what the plan is with this project, and explain that it's in maintenance mode (if that's the case).

There are lots of awesome PRs that should be reviewed and merged when possible.

I hit a wall with personal time, stuck on the GUI atm. I'm trying to solution this (get a work mate involved mostly) to push out the next release. The PRs are unfortunately mostly obsolete because they target the master branch and dev is aeons ahead.

Perhaps you could close them then, or suggest that they rebase if the feature is meaningful at all

I've made dev the default branch. I'll move on to dealing with PRs now. Are you ok with closing this?

Thanks, definitely helps. I also think it would be valuable to note the status of the project in the README, as it's super weird to see 1000s of commits and no releases for 7 years.

I made a trello board where i want to track development, maybe pointing to that in the readme would help?

Any reason you're not using GitHub Projects to keep it all centralized here? What are the goals before another release? A summary of that in the README might help disuade the question "why has there not been a release in so long"

I didn't know that thing existed. I'll rewrite the TODO tickets from trello and take it from there.
