Request: publish Beaconchain app to F-Droid

Overview

This issue is to request for the excellent eth2 Beaconchain explorer app for Android to be published and distributed via F-Droid.

This will enable users of Android devices who do not subscribe to services from Google to be able to also use the app.

In order to support f-droid with the full feature spec of the app, we need to implement the following things:

• [x] Alternative notification channels (no firebase)
• [x] Support web payments like stripe on beaconcha.in (no play store payment services)
• [ ] Widgets are currently closed source
• [x] Update the build process to make special flavors of the app

Is there any progress on this? I would also love to see a google-free version on fdroid. Or even just a version with pull notification only... something to run on a degoogled phone. :pray:

We just released a first google-free version of the app here https://github.com/gobitfly/eth2-beaconchain-explorer-app/releases/tag/4.0.7-nogoo

It will not be yet published on F-Droid given our widget is currently closed source. But we will publish new versions of the google free version along with new releases of the app on our github page.
