Newsprint theme repo has moved #616

Theme submission

Link to my old theme repository: https://github.com/SamWhited/newsprint Link to my new theme repository: https://git.sr.ht/~samwhited/newsprint

This is an old theme that is already in the repo (and still meets the criteria for inclusion). The theme's repo has moved and the toml file, README, etc. have been updated to reflect the new repo location. Per the instructions in this repos README I am opening an issue as if this were a new theme instead of a PR.

The old location still exists for now, but will be removed eventually.

/cc @digitalcraftsman who helped me last time, I think

@SamWhited Thank you for letting us know about the change.

Not sure if we accept themes hosted on sr.ht

sr.ht is the hosted instance of sourcehut and provides paid services to its users. On sr.ht, all plans have access to the same features. You should pick the plan which best matches your financial needs and best represents the level of investment you have in sourcehut.

The repo's README mentions:

Most of the themes in this repo are hosted on GitHub. We also include themes hosted on GitLab and similar, but we do not add themes living on a self-hosted repository.

Thoughts? @bep @digitalcraftsman

@onedrawingperday I was about to ask you the same while looking up what kind of service sr.ht is. Is it self-hosted? No. And at the moment is doesn't seem to be on a par with GitHub, Gitlab etc. in terms of popularity but I would consider it as a valid hosting service for Git repositories.

Their site doesn't say anything about "who they are", which I think is an important first step in any "do I trust you" relationship.

@bep

It seems that it was opened by a dev called Drew DeVault:

https://drewdevault.com/2018/11/15/sr.ht-general-availability.html

It was featured in Hacker News: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=18458908

Anyway it's your call I suppose about what you want us to do here.

EDIT And here is the FAQ page of sr.ht

First, I also looked for some kind of "About us" page, but later found announcement and status update posts on HackerNews and Reddit that led me to Drew DeVault.

What is now the consensus about sr.ht as hosting service?

onedrawingperday commented 5 years ago

@digitalcraftsman

Well, I think that this is a unique theme unlike any other that despite its age, it adds value to the Themes Showcase list because it is well made.

Note that both #547 and the refusal to accept themes that reside in self hosted git repos happened after we had valid reasons for taking such action.

So let's give Drew DeVault's new service the benefit of the doubt. If we notice anything undesirable we can always have this theme blacklisted or removed.

Thanks for the kind words, and for merging the change. I appreciate the help.
