It's highly likely that our potential users will want to try Gokien inside a virtual machine first. Since gala (the window manager) uses libmutter, it will always render everything in 3D, even using software rendering if it must. As a result, GUI performance under virtual machine environment is really poor.

I think Linux Mint has already done this.

UPDATE 2013-06-27 20:42: The needed packages are:

For Virtualbox: virtualbox-guest-dkms (DO NOT install virtualbox-guest-additions, it'll pull in the whole virtualbox thingy)
For VMware: open-vm-dkms, not sure if we need open-vm-tools or not.

I decide that VMware is too problematic to support. On the other hand, our support for Virtualbox is working quite well. Closing.
