Enabling Virtualbox's 3D feature is not obvious to many users. Furthermore, the kernel on the iso requires the PAE feature from the (virtual) CPU which Virtualbox sometimes disable by default.

Our friend @xekiah has written a simple guide for Virtualbox here. Still, the part for VMware is not yet written.
