Creating a Local go Community in Tunis #37

Open turbopape opened 6 years ago

Hey guys, I want to start a local community to advocate the use of Go as a cool technology for AI / Search etc. For me to be credible and attract as much motivated and talented people as I can, I would like some support (in form of guidance, referral, connection to a close group) from the broader Go community. I thought this might be the right place to start asking:

Hi @turbopape! This is interesting. My first question would be what is the current tech community like in Tunis? Are there tech meetups/ places where people meet to discuss new technologies?

For now: if meetup.com is an option, my recommendation is to just start one. Meetup.com will notify people around you who would be relevant to the demographic in the area. Here are some tips on starting a go meetup.

Hey Cassandra, thank you for your advice. Indeed, I see a couple meetups about digital marketing, startups pitching and social stuff going on in Tunis, but not tech stuff. Actually techies tend to gather around university clubs etc; and so it could be great to address them there. But this definitely have to change, I don't like the general belief here that suggests techies and engineers have no life but to execute orders, and in order to change them, I always wanted to make the have fun building stuff again, with Go being one of the most important drivers for this, as far as I can tell. But I like the idea of the meetup. I'll draw inspiration from the meetup you shared and I'll try to set up one. I found the agenda shared by these guys particulary interesting. What I can do is showing how we can address one trendy topic with Go, with it being basically chat bots or IoT or Blockchain. Do you have any suggestions in that direction please?
