Golem Bounties: run a provider node for 14 days #880

Closed mariapaulafn closed 9 months ago

mariapaulafn commented 3 years ago

IMPORTANT - ALL SLOTS ARE FULL. IF YOU RECEIVED A REJECTION, ITS NOT PERSONAL THE BOUNTY'S FINALIZED AND WE'RE CHECKING SUBMISSIONS. WE'LL HAVE NEW BOUNTIES ON THE FIRST HALF OF FEBRUARY SO KEEP COMING BACK!

Hello! At Golem, we’re building our brand new protocol with the help of your feedback. Since we implement most of the comments in order to adjust the building of the protocol, we’ve decided to set up bounties in order to allow people to earn rewards, and give us feedback.

Please read through the task before installing the golemsp (as in Golem sneak peek) provider - this is important, as we have limited slots and we want to reward all successful bounty hunters!

There are 20 slots and everyone will be approved on the spot. If someone fails to complete the task in 14 days, the place will be given to someone else.

IMPORTANT: To run the Golem Provider you need physical machine with Ubuntu (18.04 or 20.04). We're supporting Ubuntu, but any other Linux could do if you're willing to make it work yourself. We will not payout bounties for running New Golem on Virtual Machines.

Deliverables (we will ONLY payout the bounty if you have completed the following steps):

  1. You’ve installed the newest version of golemsp
  2. You have run the golemsp provider for at least 2 weeks
  3. You've filled out the survey (after the 14 days) - https://forms.gle/Nn4ayiW8ZME8M3wi6

image i gettings tihs error . What's wrong with that

cryptobench commented 3 years ago

@igastatus The VM is needed as that is one of our primary execution environments. The reason for no access might be if you're running the Golem provider in a VM itself. It's not officially supported at this point but we have seen that these hypervisors with nested virtualization enabled seems to work: Hyper-V, ProxMox (KVM) and virt-manager (KVM) , but don't expect any support from us if it doesn't work properly.

If you're not running it in a VM, then i'd suggest running through the known issues on the provider installation page. https://handbook.golem.network/provider-tutorials/provider-tutorial#known-issues

L-KH commented 3 years ago

@igastatus , check kvm if its installed or if your cpu support it. use command $kvm-ok , to see if its support. also you can ask in chat : https://chat.golem.network

igastatus commented 3 years ago

I'm afraid to say my cpu kinda old. So may i run it on lightsail_?

I don't know, I haven't heard anyone testing it out so I can't say for sure.

It says VM not environment

If it doesn't have access to the VM and you've tried the known issues fixes, then it simply just might not be supported.

L-KH commented 3 years ago

@igastatus , before become provider check your machine.

$ sudo apt install cpu-checker $ sudo kvm-ok

if you get KVM acceleration can be used then you just need to install the kvm and it will work. else if you get INFO: Your CPU does not support KVM extensions , KVM acceleration can NOT be used The message above shows you can’t run KVM (ps: some amd or old cpu doesn't support kvm) and here is the discord if you have questions : https://chat.golem.network

igastatus commented 3 years ago

sudo kvm-ok

I guess this doesn't support ARM64 CPU architecture... damn. I don't have a spare PC to run this for 14 days. Was really hoping my Raspberry PI 4 would work for this.
