Thanks for this! From a quick look all changes look good, though I haven't worked with Mongoid in many years.

Some questions:

Do all tests pass? (GitHub is reporting failures with Travis, but I don't recall setting it up, so I'm confused)
This seems to include #1. Would it make sense to integrate #2 as well?
