Would it be hard work fixing this graphic problem? V8 is a great game of the N64!
The Menus are still hit and miss for me, I was able to get them looking nice for the most part using the latest WIP build and adjusting the framebuffer settings. The disappearing HUD however, after extensive trial and error, it actually turned out to be my counter factor settings. (as confirmed by the problem persisted even when using AngryLion's RDB). Setting the Counter Factor to 2 made player 2's HUD reappear instantly. Have not tested in 4 player mode.
Any news on better setup for this game?
any news?
Well, I've got some news in regards of actually emulating this game with higher resolutions. This is in fact not related to GlideN64, but to actually be able to emulate this game without issues for those who are curious, I did the following:
Using RetroArch as the emulator software of choice, download the ParaLLel libretro core via the Online updater.
After booting up Vigilante 8 in RetroArch via the ParaLLel libretro core, set gfx plugin in ParaLLel to parallel.
Set the parallel upscaling factor to a higher value (mine's at 4x).
Now Vigilant 8 actually runs more or less flawlessly in a higher screen resolution.
The 2 player hud still blinks though, as long as the 2 player splitscreen mode is set to vertical. Changing it to horizontal fixes the issue. No issues with blinking huds in 3- or 4 player mode (maybe a bit of blinking in the very start, but that goes away fast).
It seems like this is one of the hard games to properly emulate in terms of N64 emulation. The menus are kind of glitchy (as seen in the picture), the car selection screen blinks a lot, and the in-game hud for player 2 disappears in 2 player mode (it sometimes appears for a brief moment randomly like in maybe one second).
Sometimes the main menu gets all black when going back and forth in the multiplayer menus.
In 4 player mode, the hud of the first player seems to blink a lot.
