Album artwork on Android device

If there a way of displaying album artwork on my android device when using 
Squeezer?

Previously, with other applications, I've managed to achieve this by using an 
Artwork grabber app, but this doesn't seem to work with Squeezer even if I 
clear the Squeezer data before/after grabbing the artwork.

Yes there is a way to display album artwork.

Squeezer fetches the album artwork from the Logitech Media Server (LMS). So you 
have to put your artwork on the server, so LMS can see it. You can check if 
this works by connecting to LMS in a browser. There is more help with this on 
the LMS wiki http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/AlbumArtwork.

Unfortunately, when downloading tracks, the artwork (folder.jpg) does not get 
downloaded.

You are right about that, we don't copy the artwork to the android device.

I don't know how artwork works on Android, but I miss that functionality 
myself, so I will look into it, and see what I can do.
