Socket Timeout errors on Android XBMC remote, inconsistent frequency. #618

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Install client on Android
2. Connect to XBMC and try to browse media library (works mostly fine as a
remote)

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Expect to browse movies / TV data (with thumbnails)
Very very occassionally it works, 9 times out of ten

"Socket Timeout"
"Make sure XBMC webserver is enabled and XBMC is running"
2 buttons to choose from "settings" or "close"

What version of XBMC Remote are you using?
XBMC Remote version is v0.8.8-beta1 revision 808

Which Android device are you using (and which ROM, if custom)?
CM9 on HP Touchpad
Same problem with Samsung Galaxy S2 ICS Leaked Samsung rom, build unknown but
not CM9

Which XBMC revision are you running and on which platform?
"XBMC 11.0-RC2 Git:20120229-f38655f" (build no doubt)

Please provide any additional information below.
Firewall disabled.
Ability to control XBMC via web browser on the same touchpad, no problem at
all, clearly wifi / firewall is ok.

Suggest timeout be seriously modified on XBMC remote.

NOTE: for the most part it's still usable, if you just keep clicking 'close'
'close' close' all the time - but it times out pulling in pictures and
sometimes even simply loading the TV or movies page. The remote is more often
more reliable.

I suspect maybe the timeout is actually broken because I found the setting,
tapped it up to 50 seconds, no luck.

One more thing, this particular error (soccket timeout) has been around for
quite a while if you google out. It's definitely been an ongoing problem.

I confirm the same problem on Samsung Galaxy S2, HTC Legend, Samsung Galaxy
Mini 2 and Samsung Galaxy EUROPA.

The Socket Timeout error pops up every few moments (the time interval is NOT
constant).
I have tried changing the timeout value in settings but it does not change
anything.
The remote works well otherwise... I just need to press "close" on the Socket
Timeout error message and continue using it.
