Select With Mouse and Control Key #333

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
I was just trying to select with the mouse while holding down the control key,
but it would not select the multiple items.

Thank function is standard in GUI computing, as is holding down the shift key
while selecting the first and last in a contiguous group. These must be
functional.

Thanks.

Hm, am pretty sure this works. Can you explain in detail what you did?

Yours evidently has a non-standard way of doing it that I just remembered.
With yours, the items are selected and show an asterisk and colored text. It
was not apparent to me at first.

The proper way is to hold down the CTRL key and selected each in turn, which
highlights the whole line on each selection and not just the text, Open
something like Thunderbird and select multiple messages from the list pane.
(Or use a Windows machine to see how this works in their windows explorer
program.)

Changing the decades old method does not help anyone because we are all used to
the standard method. I kind of creates confusion.

Just my 2 cents worth.

Thanks.

It's important to note that Sunflower is keyboard oriented, and the way you are
describing makes selecting with only keyboard impossible. You are right that
it's not as obvious as it should be. If you have any idea on how I can improve
that, please do suggest.

As for the age, :D current selection method comes from early Norton Commander,
Volkov Commander and DOS Navigator days. But I didn't make it that way because
it's oldest way of selecting items but because it provides flexibility with
keyboard and mouse even though it's not the same as the rest of the system.

In that case, you are correct. I did not understand that it was
keyboard-oriented. I really need something that is GUI-oriented, and the
layout seemed to satisfy that need.

I will think about it and get back to you.

Ideally we need to find a working and good middle ground. I want to help all
kinds of users, so keyboard should be supported, but not at the cost of mouse
users. So any feedback is welcome. Thanks!
