http://www.gphoto.org for controlling dSLR's preview would be GCS. Perhaps liveview.

Technically libgphoto2 would needed onboard and perhaps python bindings to trigger, download etc.

Could also be related to capture via gphoto2 if you wanted to generate preview maps.
