Better to use osu!standard hit windows instead of generic hit windows? #146

Since this game mode is conceptually similar to osu!standard, I think it would be better to grab the hit window from there instead (class OsuHitWindow). What do you think?

goodtrailer commented 1 year ago

Personally, I've thought of it being more like 8k mania, and mania has 5 hit windows (rainbow, 300, 200, 100, 50), while std only has 3 (300, 100, 50).

It's similar in controls sure, but the game mechanics are entirely different, and I find it very hard to hold accuracy when playing. Also, mania has less things to keep track of visually, while this has around the same mental load as osu!standard. That's why i propose changing the hit window to osu!standard.

Anyway, feel free to ignore this if you want, I still have a lot of fun playing this nonetheless.

I agree with @longnguyen2004, standard hit windows would look nicer in my opinion.

👍 Yeah ok, I'll add a mod for this if a few more people say the same thing (or whenever I find the time to). Just a little surprising to me haha, since I thought this game mode would appeal more to the mania type players.

Edit: Actually, I'd probably do it the other way around, i.e. std hit windows by default, and mania hit windows by mod.

Just so you know, I'm a top mania player 😊

Anyway, in osu!mania, there's not much on the screen aside from notes falling down, so the timings can be very tight and it's still playable. This ruleset however is comparable to osu!standard in terms of information to process, and the fixed keybinds don't really make it any easier to play. That's why I proposed changing the hit window to osu!standard hit windows

goodtrailer commented 4 months ago

Interesting, that makes sense (for reference, I do not play mania LOL).

On a side note,

the fixed keybinds don't really make it any easier to play.

This was mentioned in #175 as well, and keybinds should be changeable. Are the soyokaze! keybinds not showing up in the keyboard settings? Maybe I should mention on the README where to find these settings, since they are kinda hidden away (not in the same place as the general soyokaze! settings).

image It does show up for me in the centralized binding settings

Also, by "fixed", I mean that you don't have to move your hands between different keys, but that doesn't really make it any easier/similar to osu!mania, so my point still stands (In fact, I propose we change out the hit window altogether, instead of having it as a mod that pretty much everyone will just use by default. For old scores, we can probably just ignore them?)
