Mail thru Pear/Mail

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Install xinc on *nix server without sendmail
2. Start xinc
3. Xinc can not send mail

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I can configure xinc to use any SMTP server I have access. I can use auth SMTP.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
xinc 2.0 beta
Ubuntu

Please provide any additional information below.
I dislike configure smtp relay/sendmail on all servers I use xinc only for
this great application
