General - Social Media Icons #456

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
To consider what effort is involved to design and use smaller social media
icons.

Roy has indicated that the count functionality would not be available when
using small customised icons for Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest.

We need to investigate and discuss.

Is this being considered for release/development? Viv would like to ensure this
is still being managed for eventual release, as we believe it will help to
de-clutter product pages.

Personally - are you more inclined to click on these because they are in FHD
colours?

Another point - are you guys happy with loosing functionality? For example,
clicking on the facebook button doesn't like the page, it takes you to the
appropriate FHD facebook page. (which is a different function to the current)

I haven't fully read the doco, but does that mean we can only use custom small
icons to "follow", rather than to "like"?

I will workshop this with the ladies ASAP.

Yes, Like button only comes in one flavour and nothing else
https://developers.facebook.com/docs/reference/plugins/like/

Twitter button comes in one flavour
https://twitter.com/about/resources/buttons

And Pinterest
http://business.pinterest.com/widget-builder/#do_pin_it_button

Making it brown will loose the functionality, it either does a FB Share, or
links to a FHD page.

Roy

The ladies have decided to use the AP icons. Are you able to lift them off the
AP site, or should we get them in another format for you from Hayden?

The order of display will be: FB, Twitter, Pinterest.

As per the CR (attached here again), the very top FB and Twitter buttons to
follow FHD will remain AS IS.

Hi Miki,

Can you please provide a URL pointing to the AP social media icons?

Thanks

If you go to the auspost.com.au site, you'll find the icons at the footer of
the pages.
You'll note that there is a mouseover lighter version of the icons on the site;
if it's fairly easy to do then we can have the same; otherwise just the darker
one will do (but it's nice to be able to see that it's a button).

Done.

The Facebook share widget uses the meta data on the page, since support isn't
visible behind authentication, most of the data won't be shown.

We won't be able to prepopulate with ease since it reuses the Open Graph Meta
Tags, page title, description, page image etc.

We can disable the authentication to test, or you can just put a link in
facebook and see what meta tags it pulls. For example, go to facebook, put a
fhd link in "update status" for example:
http://www.farmhousedirect.com.au/howiesonfarm/dried-apricots-1-kilo

That's what will show up in the facebook share widget

The existing live icons just do a "like" for the product / page (for FB) rather
than the new one on test which is more like a "share". Is it possible to just
do a "like" as per before, or is that not possible using a custom icon?

This would be to differentiate between this functionality and the sharing from
the Order Confirmation.

The tweeting and pinning are ok, though, as they match current functionality.

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
Sorry you can't do a "Like"

Only shares is permitted, Facebook has removed publicizing this option, but
this action is still permitted currently.

Their objective is to get everyone to run facebook tags on the page, and that
is done via their official widget.

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
OK no probs. For these icons, though, I don't think we need to specify the
text - let the user specify the tweet, or note for the pin, and for the FB
share.

Removed all text from social media icons.

Please avoid changes like this to requirements in the future.

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
Sorry Roy, but it's because we haven't had time to confirm the text for that,
too. We'll pop it back in next release if we get to it.

In the meantime, when I click on the Twitter icon, I get TWO popup windows
(strangely one smaller than the other) opening up. Doesn't happen with FB or
Pinterest. Can this be fixed? I noticed that initially in Chrome, neither
opened when popup blocker was enabled. In IE, if the message came up saying
popup was blocked, then it still allowed one of the popups.

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
Its ok.

I can't reproduce the pop up issue, could you please provide a URL where this
is occuring?

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
It happens to be whichever product or producer page I'm on. Have a look at
attached. Same in Chrome & IE.
