After a couple hours of "Redirect FTP blog" running, I got the message:

"There was a problem updating your FTP server. Click  here to download a
ZIP file archive of you blog, which you can manually upload to your FTP host."

So I downloaded the provided zip file, unzipped it, and manually uploaded
it to the original directory (generousorthodoxy.org/ruminations).

QUESTION:
How do I get the migration tool to move on to the next step - "Verify FTP
redirect"?

Also, the other blog on the site (http://tips.generousorthodoxy.org), no matter 
how
long I let it run (all day!) it never finished the "Redirect FTP blog", and 
doesn't
ever get to the "download in a zip file" part either.

Your problem likely starts in the DNS addresses.  I'll show excerpted Dig logs, 
here.

This is what you have:

ruminations.generousorthodoxy.org. 86400 IN CNAME ghs.google.com.

This is what you will need:

ruminations.generousorthodoxy.org. 86400 IN CNAME ghs.google.com.
www.ruminations.generousorthodoxy.org. 86400 IN CNAME ghs.google.com.

You will need to work with your DNS host (either a CSR, or CPanel or the 
equivalent),
and make the above correction.
