Where in the process did you encounter an error?
after migration

Describe the error:
When does the [rel="canonical"] tag take effect? I finished the migration 
on March 18, and thanks to SiteMeter, I notice that Google searches are 
still leading people to my old URL (reflectionsonplayboy.com).

It should be fairly immediate. You can always verify yourself by looking at the 
old 
blog's page source, and if everything updated properly, you'll see the 'meta 
refresh' 
info at the top.
