Refactor startup procedure #164

The current startup procedure is hardcoded in ChooselWorkbench.init(). It does 
not allow for flexible extension, e.g. adding new parameters that trigger 
automatic setup of an embedded view. The goal of this refactoring is to change 
the initial procedure to allow for flexible configuration.
