Please try alpha2 and report back.

http://review.cyanogenmod.com/#/c/16827/ <<< This could be the fix for it.

That was the wrong change, there was one for the ril socket.

I need logs if possible. This happens only rarely.

My guess:

You have a connection and everything is working. After some time it happens
that you don't have any reception but something tries to access the internet
and this stalls the data reconnect.

It is probably an upstream ril bug.

Hi Andreas,

Loved your Comment #8 ;). See "How to ask smart questions the smart way" by ESR
(http://catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html), you'll probably enjoy the
read.

Enough off-topic.

Re. the issue, the HTC Chacha builds are also suffering the same issue.

User dapaua at XDA made this contribution, providing a script to restart data
every 10min, so at most the data would be unavailable for 10min. I guess the
same could be achieved using Tasker.

Not a fix, but at least a workaround so people suffer less of the disconection.
I wonder if it's an issue only affecting us, because when I was running CM9 on
my Defy I had the same issue several times a day, reason for which I got back
to CM7.2.

I'm wondering also if it could be improved maybe by changing some ril
propertiesd in build.prop.

I think it is a bug in rild, but I don't have the time to study the code right
now. With some luck you find something in the radio logcat when it occurs.

In fact, when I switch between 2G and 3G, I need to turn off and on mobile
data. CM9-alpha5. Same problem occurs randomly when I don't do anything with
the phone. And the 'E' or 'H' sign sometimes disappears when the device is
connected as a USB modem, thus connection is getting lost. In the last case, it
takes only to switch fly mode on-off, no other way to get the data connection
back.

I'm running in the same issues from time to time but wasn't able to find the
bug yet. We need a log with an error messaging giving us a hint what's going
wrong.

it's really easy to reproduce if you have the toggle 2g/3g button enabled.
leave mobile data enabled and just change between 2g and 3g, if you don't
restart mobile data, you cannot connect once you switch.

Then please attach a logcat reproducing the problem.

@comment #15. That error is different. They are two differents erros. 1. Toggle
2G/3G and 2. Not using the phone for a certain periode of time = 3G loses.

Happend once with alpha 7, after some time, i picked up phone, couldnt activate
internet even though it was showing on APN swich widget it is on. tried
enabling, reenabling it, didt work. Restarted phone, worked fine. I guess its
random.
Oh yeah, I use juice defender on aggresive, but my battery was 80% full (dunno
if it makes any impact on this bug)

I have the same issue. Connection is lost after some time. cm9-rc2-alpha7.
Log is attached. In the beginning data connection works fine, but then on line
479:
E/Gmail (18330): IOException: Unable to resolve host
"android.clients.google.com": No address associated with hostname

This problem annoys me very much, so I'd like to help in some way. What can I
do to help?

Same to me with alpha9. Seems to be that you loose the default gateway when you
change from one antenna to another. Every time I loose the data, I go to the
shell and with ip route show I can confirm that no route for rmnet0. When I
have data I got the route there.

Original comment by manolopm on 3 Jan 2013 at 9:32

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
Another clue, it loose the route because the rmnet0 link status goes down.
