Summary:
There are consistent issues with the chatbox virus saying it successfully
infected the target, but not actually infecting the target. It also shows up as
"discon" in the target's logs.
Details:
I have had multiple chatbox viruses successfully hit against multiple targets
in the past 7 days are so and 0% of them have had any effect. Unsure whether or
not targets were running antivirus but lack of effect is consistent.
Today I attacked SirzechsLucifer, with CON under 50% HP, with chatbox viruses.
There were 3 hits. Sirzechs reported never noticing. There was clearly no
effect. IN ADDITION (which prompted me to report this again), according to my
log bot running on Sirzechs, the packet logs showed "discon" viruses, not
chatbox. I do not have the log bot output saved.
More Tests:
I connected to myself. I brought my own CON down to about 25% with attacks. I
then attempted to infect myself with the chatbox virus. After multiple reported
successful infections, and not running my antivirus (nor had I ever run it this
session), my chat still functioned correctly and the virus had no effect.
My logs report "PKT:VIRUS:C:discon" (although I had no effects of the force
disconnect virus either).
My antivirus reports no virus detected on this gateway.
I tested some other viruses on myself. All tested worked fine except chatbox.
Here is a list of the viruses I tested, whether or not they actually had an
effect, and the log entries:
Chatbox - NO EFFECT - PKT:VIRUS:C:discon (no discon effect either)
Chat Scramble - WORKS - PKT:VIRUS:C:chatscram
Script Crash - WORKS - PKT:VIRUS:C:scriptwipe
Force Disconnect - WORKS - PKT:VIRUS:C:discon (note, log correct)
Loanpay - WORKS - PKT:VIRUS:C:loanpay
I did not test the remaining viruses. The issue seems to be isolated to chatbox.
Note:
A few days ago Overkill and I attempted to give Lamphobic a loanpay virus (he
was willing). He did not have antivirus installed. I had at least 10 of 40
attempts reported as "successful". Overkill had many as well. Lamphobic
reported none of them hitting. At the time we thought it may be somehow related
to gateway server indexes changing in the satnet list.
However, my above test with loanpay showed that it was indeed effective. I do
not have enough information to tell if it was because the agent satnet was
fixed, or if it was unique to Lamphobic, or unique to that specific session.
