Crash when trying to load invalid character

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Change language (example: norwegian)
2. Save game with this character in savegame (a with ring over, norwegian 
character)
3. Start new, try to load, crash

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Dos screen with error before it closes

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
vista, 30b

Please provide any additional information below.
Scandinavian (norwegian charset, letter "å")
I renamed the file, then it worked..

Can you please test with latest git commit? I tried several weird characters, 
and saved games always worked fine even if I didn't even have that char in my 
codeset. (t showed up as a [] square char in my OS)

Also, what OS are you using? And what Python version?
