Using MP 1.0.2, XP MCE sp3, Blue 3 mod.
I did a fresh install after deleteing all of handler files and fanart folders.
Started MP after a complete scrape in config. went to MyMusicGenre list view.
First
selected fanart image displayed, moved down the list and the image remained the
same,
regardless of the album, I could see the image fade in/out briefly each time I
changed selected album.
I started a playlist and went to MyMusicPlaylist. The first played fanart image
displayed, and cycled for that artist. I moved down to the next artist and the
image
changed to my alternate backdrop image then changed, cycling the first played
artist,
not changing to the now selected artist image first.
I went to NowPlaying, the image of the FIRST playing artist displayed ... I
skipped
to the next artist and the image remained the same - that of the first playing
artist, and so on, no matter which artist was playing. I could tell the now
playing
artist scrape was working, but it never displayed.
I stopped and reverted to fanart handler v1.3 and everything operates
correctly. My
XMLs have not changed.
I re-installed v1.5 completely 3 times, including deleting the cache and even
rebooting the HTPC, with the same result.

... also, forgot to mention.
Last.FM never displayed any fanart with v1.5, but does with v1.3.
btw, I realized just last night, when I ran Last.FM using v1.4 (and then also
in
NowPlaying) that 'playing artist scrape' did not display the scraping notice,
and new
fanart was not displayed.

This is for the newest v1.5....
The fannart is displaying correctly in MyMusic, Playlist and Now Playing... but
it
doesn't seem to be scraping correctly in Last.FM (I don't know if scraping
occurred
during the test except for Last.FM). Scraping occurs on the first song plaed in
Last.FM, but then it doesn't scrape for any artist played next. The First
artist
played cycles through all the fanart scraped, but when the next artist, and
several
others in turn, played, no fanart was scraped.
The logs showed that 9 images were found and downloaded for the first artist
and no
other searches were performed before the fanart handler was closed (stopped
music and
exited MP). Nor errors reported.

One interesting thing. When I check 'Use Fanart in Overlay' then Last.FM will
search
for fanart for the FIRST artist only; when it is unchecked, then Last.FM will
NOT
search for an image at all for ANY artist.
I don't think it is supposed to work like that...
'Playing Artist' scrape in Now Playing works in either case.

About an hour later... I wander in and look at the HTPC/TV and notice that
there was
a fanart backdrop in Last.FM... so I stopped and watched. For the next 2-3
artists,
backdrops were scraped.... very odd now.
I went back to config and unchecked the 'Use Fanart in Overlay' box, started MP
again
and went to Last.FM. After 5 artists, so far, no scraping and no backdrop is
displayed, even on artists I know I have fanart for.
We may be halfway there....

okay, now it's weird again.
I checked the 'Use Fanart in Overlay' setting again, and ran Last.FM. Now no
scraping
occurred and no fanart displayed. I exited, unchecked the box. ran Last.FM (no
scraping
or fanart still), then exited, Checked the box again, ran Last.FM and now there
is
scraping and fanart for all artists again.
Just unpredictable.

Hi,
Please test the attached dll and see if it helps.

Hi cul8er,
I tried the new dll. The issue remains... no scraping or display of fanart in
Last.FM, but only when 'Use Fanart in Overlay' is NOT checked. In addition, now
Last.FM does not fall back to my alternate artist-thumb display. Logs reflect
that no
search is done for artists in Last.FM., as if they were not played.
When 'Use Fanart In Overlay' is checked, then scraping occurs and all fanart
backdrops, as well as alternate artist-thumbs display. Logs show search and
download
correctly.
MyMusic, MusicPlaylist and NowPlaying appear to be working in either condition.
I don't use fanart handler in overlays.
reagrds,
Chuck

just to mention... I switched back and forth almost a dozen times, checking and
un-checking 'Use Fanart In Overlays' and was getting consistent results.

Thanks, this is perfect. I have now tracked the problem and we have consistency.

Okay... this throws the wrench into the workings.... again... sorry.
I exited MP to upload the xml files... I started MP and went first to watch a
video.
I made no changes to the fanart handler config (last setting was with 'Use
Fanart In
Overlays' checked).
I then finished that and started Last.FM to play while I got some work done.
ugh...
no fanart... only my alternate artist thumbs displayed. No scraping notice
displayed.
Not even fanart I had already downloaded displayed.
I jumped back to MyMusic and started a playlist. Now-Playing displayed fanart
and
also executed a scrape... so that part still works.

I exited MP, went to fanart handler config., made no changes and exited (saving)
Started MP, went to Last.FM and all fanart, scraping, etc. was back.
-I exited Last.FM went to My music played a couple songs (fanart and scraping
was
working).
stopped. went back to Last.FM and no fanart/scraping or alt. thumbs displayed.
stopped, exited to BasicHome then restarted Last.FM .. no fanart/scraping, but alt.
thumbs were working.
stopped. exited to BasicHome. Started Last.FM again... no fanart/scraping or
alt. thumbs.
Stopped. ... BasicHome ... Last.FM and thumbs worked but no fanart/scraping.
see a pattern? ... weird.
I did notice, on entering Last.FM (when no fanart or thumbs were working), that
a
previous (undiscernable) fanart was fading out in the background - maybe some
artifact of the problem.

I stopped, exited MP, then immediately restarted MP, went to Last.FM and
Fanart/Scraping, etc., was working again.
stopped. BasicHome. Last.FM .... alt. thumbs but no fanart/scraping. This time,
each
time I exited to BasicHome and back to Last.FM, then only alt. thumbs were
working,
not fanart/scraping.

Hi,
I have tested about 20 times now and cannot reproduce this. So very annoying.
Thank you
for all your feedback. And your logs are empty of errors. Looks like some sort
of
deadlock. I will have to continue testing...

Hi,
I have created a new version that will write more information to the
fanarthandler.log.
Please test it and then attach the log to this issue. Hopefully it will provide
enough
information on the problem.

Here is the log for the expanded-log dll. I tried to keep it simple.
I copied the dll to the plugins/process folder. Without going to config first, I
started MP and went to Last.FM.
- There was an initial scrape going as I entered Last.FM
- fanart/scraping and alt. artist-thumbs worked.
- stopped, exited to BasicHome, then returned to Last.FM
- No fanart/scraping and no alt. artist-thumbs.
- stopped, exited to BasicHome, then returned to Last.FM
- only alt. artist-thumbs worked, no fanart/scraping.
let me know if you need more.

Hi,
Thank you. I see in the log that we only get until a point in the code and I
need now
to understand what condition that makes the rest of the code not executing.
Have
created yet a new dll that will give me that information. Please test it and
attach
the fanarthandler.log again.
Thank you in advance.

Well .... It worked every time. Except for at least a couple artists (sorry, I
didn't
take note of which ones) which displayed the fanart in rapid succession as the
scraper was downloading, but after a minute or so, they settled down to the
preset 20
seconds timing.
Sorry the log is long... I jumped around between different screens trying to
see if
Last.FM would break.

Hi,
Ok, this mean one of two things. I fixed the problem or by adding all the
logsteps I
slowed everything down so it has time to initiate scraping and so on. I will
post a
version exact like this but without the logging and we will see if everything
is
still working.
Thanks for "sticking" with this;)

YESSSSSS!!!
The only thing that popped up was the rapid cycle display of a couple artists
during
scraping/download... but settled down to the 20 second cycle time after about a
minute.
I can live with that for now. ;)
GET THIS OUT THE DOOR!!!!! there are a lot of people anticipating it.
