There is an feature request registered to use OpenStreetMap:
http://code.google.com/p/geobeagle/issues/detail?id=41

That would be a way to get offline maps in case of spotty data connection.
What's the
advantage of implementing support for the other map providers?
Any information on how to do that?

Yes, #41 is very similar. But not the same. OpenStreetMap is given there as an
example. The feature could also be implemented with offline maps from Google.

Because of legal rights on map data Google is not always a good provider in some
countries, like the one I live in. (API maps are blank)

I use either Google or OSM. I listed the other providers as examples and true I
guess
there is no big advantage in adding the others, AFAIK.

Ok, I see. We have more ideas for enhancements than developer time so we want
to limit
the scope as much as possible. Let's note another vote for #41 then.
