Your best bet it just to use IMAP for Gmail and drag and drop your messages.

Yeah, that never works. I've tried apple mail and thunderbird, invariably they
choke
partway through the copy.

The whole point is to move my Pop3 mail accounts to Google IMAP. What is the
point of this otherwise?

It would be great it this worked for non-apps accounts (ie, gmail.com)
I realize you can drag/drop between local and imap, but when you have years of
email, any program i've tried chokes doing that many messages, so you
invariably have to break it up and select a big chunk, copy them, then go to
the next chunk in the message list and repeat... over and over... which is
horrible, and easy to copy/paste duplicates or miss sections because you lose
your place.
