No subject after importing with Google Email Uploader #19

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. In Thunderbird, I downloaded for offline use all IMAP email from my
primary webmail.us email account.
2. I then chose "Work Offline" and closed Thunderbird.
3. I imported 19K messages over 24 hours.
4. I opened my email and saw no messages in inbox, but all folder labels,
correctly (and imported Inbox is correct).

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
When I click on the imported Inbox, the first several pages of email show
"(unknown sender)" and "(no subject)". Older messages, however, correctly
show the sender and subject.
Attached shows what I see in imported Inbox - a whole row of this.
Scrolling through the first 2000 of 8100 conversations, the vast majority
show "(unknown sender)" and "(no subject)". However, conversations
7000-8100 all show the correct sender and subject.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Thunderbird 2.0.0.12
Google Email Uploader 1.1

Please provide any additional information below.

Additional note: I did stop and start the email uploader 2 times during the
upload,
between which I sent an email from Thunderbird (accidentally - I am used to
choosing
"Send To" from an Office document and having it pop open Thunderbird's New
Message
window...)

I also got this problem with my Inbox from conversations 1-802 out of 6794. It
looks
like any folder with more than 6000 conversations causes it to break down( Yes I
know, I should organise it better)

I didn't stop the uploader at any time.

I am also experiencing this problem. About 90% of my 1036 emails loaded
contain the
(unknown sender). All of my contacts uploaded correctly. What causes this
(unknown
sender) issue?

I'm getting this problem as well, on hundreds of emails (even from folders
containing
only a few hundreds conversations).

I did notice a pattern however: for emails sent / received through my POP
account,
the sender data comes through fine. For emails sent / received through my
exchange
server, the sender data does not upload. Instead, I receive "unknown sender,"
just
like the users above.

Has there been a resolution for this?

I have found that importing from an Exchange server, the unknown sender problem
appears for anyone who's name is local within my organization. Somehow it isn't
translating the name in the directory to the email address. I found the only way
around this is to set up IMAP and copy folders over using Outlook. This seems to
retain 99% of the names.

Hi dalaigh,

I am having the exact same problem you are having. Can you give me a little
more
detail on how to set up the IMAP connection to copy folders over?

Thanks for any help!

Hi Newmane,

Its simply a matter of setting up imap on each individual's outlook and copying
the folders over. Turn on Imap
for the user under the gmail account settings then follow the directions
provided by google.

AND

Once you've done this, just right click on the folder name in outlook (eg
Inbox) and copy it to the IMAP user
top level.

If you are looking for a way to import loads of people, this isn't exactly a
fast way but you'll get there
eventually.

Hi Dalaigh13,

your advice seems to tell newmane how to moves files from Outlook to GMail via
IMAP,
but it doesn't appear to address the underlying problem of the (unknown
sender). If
I'm missing something in your advice or in the links you posted, I'd appreciate
if
you could give more detail. I'm stuck on how to resolve this issue.

Hi ndonahue. You're absolutely right. It doesn't solve the problem. The importer
still has this problem and no solution appears to be availebl

Using IMAP was the only practical workaround I could find for the task at hand.
It is
still something that should be fixed if possible.

After copying my old email messages from Thunderbird local folders to Gmail
folder with
IMAP all the messages has (unknown sender) (the same for subject and so on)
even if the
message is there and seems correct if I open it in Gmail.

Hi mauman (and others),

The lastest version of Google Apps Sync for Microsoft Outlook finally fixes
this
issue. Give it a try!

Yes, but this doesn't solve the problem for those of us who don't have Google
Apps - please help!
