Please try without sidebar. Run ggl-gtk -ns to turn off sidebar. I'm wondering
if
it's a sidebar specific problem.

Some other things i forgot to mention:
using 64-bit ubuntu
adding a gadget and then blindly right clicking and hitting 'detach' makes the
gadget
display properly, but completly opaque. all gadgets i have tried so far work
properly
when not docked on the sidebar.

EXCEPT! after undocking all of the gadgets and restarting ggl-gtk, everything
is back
again (still opaque, but thats a different issue i believe, somethign with the
compositer (compiz))

so: certain gadgets cause this issue. i will experiment to find one that breaks
it

Weather browser does it. installing the weather browser causes the whole thing
to
turn grey, simply remove it and restart ggl-gtk and it all works great!

Should be fixed in 0.9.3. Please reopen if not.
