Maps on Android 2.2: Get Directions autocomplete shows invisible results (white-on-white) #633

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Start Maps
2. press Menu key, and go to Directions
3. Start typing the name of an existing location

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

Auto-complete should show a set of sensible auto-completions, that I can
actually see and read. Instead, it shows a list of results that are all
invisible, presumably because they are printed white-on-white. Each result has
the name of the city and state it's in (and in some cases the street name), in
gray-on-white, but the actual location name is completely invisible.

If I use the arrow keys to step through the items in the list of
auto-completions, then I can read them in white-on-blue. Likewise, if I
touch-and-hold an item, I can read it in white-on-orange. This is why I'm
guessing the invisible results are printed white-on-white.

This bug has been around for a long time, and update after update after update
has never been fixed. I'm finally reporting it now.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?

Latest Maps (6.14.5), on T-Mobile Sidekick 4G, running Android 2.2. (Firmware
version 2.2.1, Kernel version 2.6.32.9, Build number FROYO.UVKJ2)

This is an old phone, but I'm still using it because no newer phone has a
built-in hardware keyboard that is as good. I use this keyboard to take
timestamped field notes (with a modified version of OI Notepad), using
four-letter codes for bird species, and the numeral row for counts. Doing this
with a touch screen would be a mess, much slower and more error-prone. There is
no update for this phone to a newer version of Android than 2.2.

Figured out what I think is the official way to report a bug to Google. The
thread is here:
