Peter,
In the last 24 hours you should see something like this in the HFM.log file.
This indicates that the project could not be found in the data cache and HFM
attempted to update the project data in the background.
[3/31/2012-11:06:12 PM] - Project ID '6990' not found.
[3/31/2012-11:06:12 PM] - Downloading new project data from Stanford...
A project will only trigger this download once in a 24 hour period. Subsequent
calls to the project info library for this project number will result in no
automatic/background download attempt. This is done to limit the number of
times users are pinging the psummary page for data. As you've found, the user
also has the option to trigger this download manually through the Tools menu,
but that's a manual option and if Pande Group gets upset with someone manually
downloading over and over again then that's the user's responsibility, not an
involuntary action due to use of HFM.
I just tested the background download functionality. It is working as
expected. Actually this really didn't change much vs. v0.6.2. I am open to
suggestions about the length of time to wait before a project will retrigger
the download. As stated, it's currently 24 hours, but I'm not opposed to
making it shorter. Something like 12 or even 6 hours. What do you think?
