OS X binary fails under Snow Leopard #8

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. download the OS X ZIP file
2. start installation
3. all is well until the "Installation" step.
4. Once that start, it loops forever in "Preparing HOXChess"

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

install just never ends.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?

latest binary (0.8.0.0) on OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard

Please provide any additional information below.

Thank you for reporting.
This Issue is tricky to solve because I have not yet upgraded my Mac to the new
10.6 Snow Leopard version.
In other words, HOXChess has *never* been tested on 10.6
However, I should upgrade the OS soon (in a few weeks)... So please stay tuned!

Question, have you ever successfully run HOXChess on older version of Mac (e.g.
10.5)?

Nope, I did not try to install HOXChess in older version of Mac OS than 10.6
Snow
leopard.

I just asked my sister to try out HOXChess 0.8.0.0 on her new MacBook Pro, on
which she just upgraded to
Snow Leopard last week. She said she installed successfully without a problem.
I attached the screenshot
that was captured on her machine. Note the phrase "Darwin 10.0.0 i386" in the
"About ..." dialog ( On my
iMac 10.5 Leopard, it says "Darwin 9.8.0 i386").

Please know that I am aware of the fact that you have a problem, which I am
trying to solve.
However, I am facing a dilemma. If I decide to upgrade my only iMac desktop to
10.6, then I no longer have
any machine to test the old version 10.5. Since Apple just released 10.6 a few
weeks ago, I assume that the
number of 10.6 machines out there is not as big as that of 10.5...

Anyway, let me think of something... Stay tuned!

So I tried to run it again today. Installed without a hitch. God knows why.

I am glad that you are now able to install successfully.
What it means is that I can wait a little longer (maybe 3-6 more months) before
I upgrade my Mac from 10.5 to
10.6 :)

I updated my iMac to from OSX 10.5 to 10.6. So far, HOXChess can run fine.
