wrong characters represented for öÖÄä keys

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Hardware - nokia n810 internet tablet - Finnish keyboard layout. 
2. Labyrinth mapping SW version 0.5.0dev
3. Type text using Öö and Ää keys in a text field

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
öÖ and äÄ characters don't display at all. Instead, the app uses the ø and
æ characters which should be activated with the Ctrl and Ctrl + shift (for
uppercase). The device's keyboard map functions normally with other
software applications.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Hardware - nokia n810 internet tablet with Maemo 2008OS - Finnish keyboard
layout.
Labyrinth mapping SW version 0.5.0dev

I tried it on my ordinary PC with the german keyboard layout, but I can easily 
input
äöü and ÄÖÜ.

What is the locale setting of your system? Run the command locale and send 
paste the
output here. Is one of the working applications a python app too?
