What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. select any text
2. click on bold|italic|..
3. the text will be replaced instead of applying the selected font face

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
the expected output it that the font face selected is applied over the
selected text

Agreed, some commands should wrap the selected text rather than replace.

Added support for wrapping the pasted LaTeX command around the selected text, 
for
commands where this behavior is expected, such as the font style.
