For both renewable energy and nearshore marine resources planning, OMM will
generate reports that assess
the application of certain uses or restriction according to pre-defined
guidelines, ecological conditions, and
socioeconomic factors. Definition of reports for each planning process will be
configured to maximize
overlapping considerations; however, certain reporting functions will be
specific to each planning process’
objectives and leverage existing, process specific, reporting functions
developed by DLCD where possible. The
nature of the specific reporting functions will depend on what is specified by
partner agencies during the
course of the proposed project (see Task 1). Reports will be divided into
logical groupings for the purpose of
improving navigation and performance. As existing reporting functions are being
reviewed and agency needs
are being considered, the development of the reporting functions will include
development of the following
components:
Overlay engine (required for all reports)
Reporting templates, presentation (user interface), and charting libraries
View map and report in same browser window frame
Export /save/print a generated report as a PDF
Geographic report – setting, proximity to known landmarks, etc Physical Report
Basic physical characteristics of site – size, depth range, average depth,
bottom types, and proportions
Habitat report
Amount, percentage, or presence of habitats (or species) captured
Regions of contiguous habitat
Special natural features or characteristics
Replication of key habitats
Renewable energy report – to assess the potential ecological and
socioeconomic impacts of siting a technology
in a particular area.
Presence/absence of existing uses including managed areas, shipping lanes,
submarine cables and corridors,
dredge spoil, non-fishing recreational use areas
Bottom bathymetry and seafloor type
Inshore electric grid infrastructure
Important marine habitat and areas of biological diversity
Presence/absence of threatened or endangered species
Areas of importance to commercial and recreational fishing based on level of
effort and value of catch (data
and reporting the Ecotrust is already collecting and performing)
Consumptive (fishing) and non-consumptive recreational uses - number of uses
present and value or intensity
of use in site
First order potential economic impacts to commercial and commercial
recreational fisheries (by port)
Resulting work from shoreside economic study may inform second and third order
impacts (multiplier)
including recreational, consumptive and non-consumptive sectors
Create your own report – this component will provide the user with the
ability to mix and match individual
sections of reports described above into custom report configurations to suit
specific custom combinations of
output.
Consider if those combinations can be predetermined and/or if it best left to
the user to define. Each user
type to be considered (i.e., resource managers, scientists, stakeholders, and
the public).
