Blank Web Page after Measureit112 install #17

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Installed measureit as per instructions on this web site.
2. copied measureit.zip contents to C:\xampp\htdocs\measureit and imported via 
phpAdmin console
3. When directing the web browser to http://localhost/measureit only get a 
blank white screen.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

Expected to get Measureit default web page.  Get blank page only.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?

Measureit 112
MySQL-python-1.2.3.win32-py2.7
python-2.7.3
xampp-win32-1.8.0-VC9
Windows 7 Ultimate X86 (32 bit)

Please provide any additional information below.

If you get a white page with no information after installing or update there is 
mostly an error in your config.

Try the following steps:

There are 2 files that include your database settings. The one that is 
responsible for white pages is php/class.db.php. Make shure the database 
settings (user, pass, host...) are correct. You can call the follwing URL to 
get a clear error message:

http://localhost/measureit/php/measureit_functions.php?do=navigation_main

This is the error i get when i call the above URL

Fatal error: Cannot re-assign auto-global variable _REQUEST in 
C:\xampp\htdocs\measureit\php\measureit_functions.php on line 660

I dont have the first idea on how to diagnose this error.  Any help 
appreciated.

I can interprete this error. It means I am an idiot.....

This ist a really really really stupid error from the programmer.... me....

Please replace your php\measureit_functions.php with this version. This should 
solve the problem. tell me please it this will solve the problem..

Hi,

I copied the file over the existing and reboot and tried again.

I get a little further this time.  Now when I call http:\\localhost\measureit I 
get a web page with three tabs on top (Home, Start Position, Setup) and a box 
under the Home Tab that contains the text "start position" but nothing else

Selecting either of the "start position" or "Setup" tabs just gives me a blank 
page.

If it helps when I call URL

http://localhost/measureit/php/measureit_functions.php?do=navigation_main

I get the following response:

Oughhh

this is difficult. Everything is just fine when you see the start page.... 
The output from the data you get is also fine.
btw: You do not have to reboot your PC. Measureit is not a windows thing...  ;)

OK. Everything looks fine and it does not work.

I have testet it also with Firefox 14.0.1 and everything is ... fine :(

If you are interested to help me find the error we had to do some debugging. 

Try the following Steps:

1. Install the Firefox extension "Firebug"
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/firebug/

2. Open Firebug by clicking on the bug icon in the right upper corner from 
Firefox

3. After Firebug is opened change to the "Konsole" tab in Firebug. If there are 
any errors you can see them there.
Every request that is send to the server creates one line with a little arrow 
in front of it. With a click on the arrow you can expand the result. I attach 
you a screenshot with open Firebug. 

4. Reproduce your steps until you get a white page. Then send me the error 
message

If there is a option that I can reach your installation I can do the debugging 
for you. If yes send me the URL to your installation per Email.

I have attached a screen dump of Firebug console output when calling 
http:\\myhostname\measureit

I have made my server available to access on the internet but I need to send 
you the IP address and username/passwords privately if possible.

a problem with the language settings... interesting.. I can not reproduce it 
here...

Please do not change anything in your current config. You can send me your IP, 
USER,PASS.... to this email address:
measureitsoft at gmail.com

Just set a temporary user and pass you can change later. Then I will take a 
look on it

Do you have a white start page or the error from the missing lng ist not 
defined?

The next version from measureit is just ready and I am working on the 
installation instructions. 
If you are using a linux system or you are using a win system?

If you are a linux user please wait 2 or 3 days and try the next version where 
both errors are solved.

Hi Gregor,

forget the timezone .. :)

Your error message told me you are on a windows system. I stop the windows 
support from measureit since about 2 years. The last running version was I 
think 113

If you are not the windows super administrator, programmer .... do not try this 
out. This was freaky enough for me to get it running on windows ;)
I am not longer willing waste private lifetime to get something running on 
windows...

Buy a Raspberry Pi install the image and save energy and nerves. A PI consumes 
about 6 watt if it will be very busy..
