Something just like this for Facebook would be awesome.  To have a
chat-style window where I can see my friend's feeds and reply to their
updates.  Love the app!

why not use http://code.google.com/p/pidgin-facebookchat/ ?
Any strong opinions against closing this issue?

No need; facebook support XMPP. See, for example,
