Custom Google bar links not persisting #174

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 9 years ago

Which Minimalist for Gmail option is causing the problem?
Google Bar > Google Links > Enable Custom Links

What is the problem? Describe completely:
I have the Google Bar set in Minimalist to Hide Background & Border, and half
of the time it works. But the other half, it's showing Google's "new" bar,
with the blue line on top.
(Also maybe or maybe not related: I am using Enable Custom Links to get rid of
the "Web" link, but it reappears despite my having removed from the input table
and I keep having to remove it again. Not every time, but semi-regularly.)

Does the problem persist when loading Gmail with this link:
https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/?labs=0 if not, list your enabled labs
experiments:
Yes, it still happens with Labs disabled.

MinGmail version - 1.7.3
Chrome version - 9.0.597.107
Chrome update channel - Stable (I think.)
Operating System - Mac OS X 10.5.8
Language - English
Google apps user? - No
Other Gmail extensions - Google Notifier at home / none at work

Please provide any additional information below and attach screenshots if
possible.

I have Chrome set to clear all cookies & site data when I close the browser.

Well I don't have anything to do with the new Google Bar. If it's only showing
it for you sometimes then it's either a Google issue or a result of your
aggressive data clearing.

However MinGmail should be fully compatible with both Google Bars. Is the issue
that your custom link settings are sticking or that the Google Bar is changing?

I'm closing this issue. Will re-open if you have more information.

As you said, the inconsistency with the new bar showing up was unrelated to
MinGmail. The new bar is showing up every time now. The second part
previously described it still happening: my custom link settings keep reverting
to Google's default. (I remove Photos and Web and rename Documents to Docs, but
it reverts on its own sooner or later.)

How often do they reset? Any pattern? For example does it happen every time you
close the browser?

I tried actively recreating the glitch by logging out & in, logging out &
quitting, qutting without logging out, etc. Links have't reverted again to
Google default. I'll keep an eye on it.
BUT...
Every time I open MinGmail settings and open the custom links input table, my
other changes are intact, but "Web" reappears in the the last slot where I had
left it blank.

Oh I see. It might think that your settings have been corrupted and it's
repairing itself. Instead of leaving it blank, put a space. That should keep it
from overwriting with the defaults.

That worked for keeping the last value in the input table blank.
I'm still getting the all-revert-to-Google-defaults hiccup. It seems to be
happening the first time I sign into GMail each day, or just after a prolonged
period of being signed out. It rights itself to the values defined in MinGmail
if I hit refresh, but starts out with the Google defaults.

I had this problem as well, but for me, the links would revert to the default
whenever a change (aside from the Input Links) was changed (such as changing
the Footer, Header, adding logo, etc). I don't know if this will help in the
debugging, but I've implemented the tip in Comment 7 to hopefully fix that.

FYI: I use the Custom Links to get rid of everything except Gmail, Calendar,
and Reader. I take out everything else and usually leave it blank.

P.S. The issue I just reported about "Enable custom logo" has an image with
two halves. The uppoer correct half is with a simple uncheck mark next to
"Enable custom logo".
