Hiding people widget also hides right-side chat

Which Minimalist for Gmail option is causing the problem?

What is the problem? Describe completely:
Hiding the people widget causes right-side chat (a Labs feature) to disappear, 
leaving an empty column on the right. Open messages show flush to right side of 
the page. 

Does the problem persist when loading Gmail with this link:
https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/?labs=0 if not, list your enabled labs
experiments:
The problem is with a Labs feature. 

MinGmail version       - 1.7.38
Chrome version         - 14.0.835.109 beta-m
Chrome update channel  - Beta
Operating System       - Windows 7
Language               - English
Google apps user?      - No
Other Gmail extensions -
