Which Minimalist for Gmail option is causing the problem?
1.7.42

What is the problem? Describe completely:

I open new chat window and start typing but no text is shown.
It can be unblock by pasting some text via Ctrl+V.

Does the problem persist when loading Gmail with this link:
https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/?labs=0 if not, list your enabled labs
experiments:

MinGmail version       -
Chrome version         -14.0.835.187 m
Chrome update channel  -
Operating System       -Win XP
Language               -EN
Google apps user?      -N
Other Gmail extensions -

Please provide any additional information below and attach screenshots if
possible.
