Cannot type into chat window

Which Minimalist for Gmail option is causing the problem?
I am not sure if it is an option, however when I toggle minimalist-gmail off, 
it goes away.

What is the problem? Describe completely:
When I have minimalist-gmail on, I cannot type into a chat window.  I can type 
into a email reply or the search bar at the top, but just not the chat window. 
I can also paste into the chat window, just not type into it.

Does the problem persist when loading Gmail with this link:
https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/?labs=0 if not, list your enabled labs
experiments:
Yes the problem persists with this turned on.

MinGmail version       1.7.42
Chrome version         14.0.835.202
Chrome update channel  default?
Operating System       OSX 10.6.8
Language               English
Google apps user?      No
Other Gmail extensions None.
