Mobbler has a wunderful nice icon with the "Only Black" theme by Babi (v6), and
probably with some other themes too.

Thanks for the tip off!
Attached is a screenshot, actually from the Darkness theme.

I remember Babi makes some very nice themes, and I'm impressed that nearly all
the
apps, including third party ones, have had new icons designed.

Yes, that's it! The logo contained in the "Only Black" theme is almost
identical,
just the colouring is slightly different. I think, the idea of this picture is
distinctive and of exeptional clarity, and still of absolute simplicity. And
beautiful too! On that account, I could very well imagine a coloured version as
the
Mobbler default application icon and logo.

Looks nice. I agree though that a default icon should be coloured. I appreciate
that
a lot of themes ship with custom icons to fit in with the theme, but I think in
terms
of user-friendliness a coloured icon stands out more in a menu and is therefore
easier to find. So as a default icon that ships with the app that's the way to
go IMHO.
Another thing to consider is that the icon needs to stand out regardless of the
background image. For instance you may have a wonderful white icon that looks
great
on a dark background but is invisible on a white background :-P (extreme
example, I
know but I think you get the jist of what I'm saying)
I've made the icons for the S60 Putty app and Lightsabre app (
http://www.flickr.com/photos/james_nash/sets/72157608449625215/ ) and am
willing to
have a go at making one for Mobbler. I can't do it right away though due to work
commitments. When i have a bit of time I'll sketch something up and share it
here for
feedback.

Sounds great to me! The main thing for me is getting away from the audio
scrobbler
icon and having something that identifies Mobbler in its own right.
I was thinking of something simple like a pair of quavers that looks like an
'M'.
The notes could also point to the right so that they look like the two 'b's in
Mobbler, but that is as far as my imagination got.
Don't let me stop you trying other things though as I'm sure you will have other
ideas or may think that that will look a bit rubbish.

well, flahorn's "Spring with Ladybug" has a nice modification of the original
icon,
but still not something to identify mobbler with. maybe i'll have a go at
illustrator
for this app ;)

heres a jpg that i found while looking for an icon for mobbler, if someone would
convert it to svg, that would be great! (i dunno the author)
and ive tried Illustrator and Inkscape's tracing...maybe someone with more
experience
could make it

Thanks for the efforts! We have recently swapped the Last.fm icon we were using
with
another Last.fm SVG icon, so that at least should fix the N82 task manager
problem.
But we really want something that's not a Last.fm image, like Eartle said, a
unique
'brand identity' for Mobbler.
So, let's get creative!

Alrighty - I've had a go at making an icon (and a logo) for Mobbler. I'm
attaching some versions of it (I have
the originals as SVGs). The first (the "glossy" one) is what I'd ideally like
the app icon to look like but S60 is
very iffy with gradients so I'm not sure if I can get that one working. The
next, "gradient", one is slightly
simplified and would be my 2nd choice. If all else fails there's the "basic"
flat one (though I could play around
with outlines and/or a solid drop shadow to make it stand out a bit more).
I also made a "Mobbler" logo text to go along with this icon for stuff like the
website and you can see it here:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/james_nash/3611851890/
Please note, that I intend the shape to be the logo. The colour (and whether
it's shaded, shiny or whatever) is
flexible and can be changed to suit the usage.
I'd be keen on feedback on the logo itself and also the proposed app icons.
Enjoy!
(btw, regardless of the final app icon I was thinking a flat SVG of the logo
could be uploaded somewhere so
that S60 theme designers can download it and make versions that fit their
themes yet retain the recognisable
"Mobbler" brand)

nice logo
i think the white to red gradient would suit better though

Glad you like the logo afzalive. As for the app icon, do you mean having a
brighter version of
"mobbler_icon_gradient.png" where the background goes from white to red or did
you mean something else?
Would you still want the 'M' in white on top or should that be a different
colour?

yeah..."m" looks very distinctive (which is good)
i meant it should be bright

I like it.
The "m" is good, I think the white bit in the "m" is good.
I think I might even prefer the basic one the best, the gradient one is good,
and
I'm not so keen on the black bit in the glossy.
I also quite like the shape, it's a bit like a plectrum :) But something makes
me
thing the "m" doesn't quite fit in there yet, I can't quite put my finger on
it;
perhaps it's not quite centred or the shape itself isn't quite right.

I'm sure you don't need them, but I wrote down some tips earlier here:
http://code.google.com/p/mobbler/wiki/SVG
I've updated the icon on the Flickr group:
http://www.flickr.com/groups/mobbler/
using this one:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/james_nash/3673292876/in/pool-mobbler
I made an abortive attempt at making a userbar for folk on Last.fm to use in
the
signatures, I thought it would add the text itself. Anyway, it wasn't very
good.
When you have time, could you make a proper swish version? No rush, it's a very
low
priority request :)

thanks!

Just seen this. The shape of the icon is very nice!
Although Mobbler should have it's own brand identity I think that it should be
immediately obvious to someone who knows Last.fm but not Mobbler to be able
make a
connection between the two, for example, the logo of apps on the Ovi store are
very
prominent so the logo really draws attention to the app. Right now, with the two
sharing the logo and no official Last.fm S60 app, people on the store will
immediately recognise it, some of this will be lost with a new logo.
How about using the same shade of red and gradient as the official logo?

Yes, I agree. The Mobbler logo that we are going to use in the next version
can be
found here.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/james_nash/3673292876/
We've used the Last.fm red and have the M in white. I think it gives Mobbler
it's
own identity and looks a bit Last.fm-ish. Maybe people won't immediately think
it's
a Last.fm app just by looking at the logo, but I can't see how we could do any
better
without putting the 'as' squiggle thing in there too.

Hey, I like the logo... how about doing a mirror image of the note, link it to
the second part of the M and the note thus becomes a 'b' of Mobbler..:)

jkforde -- there was a draft proposal with reversed notes that looked bs, but
it
lost the popular vote. Several people commented that the mirror-image quavers
looked
just wrong.

I'll mark this issue as fixed, as the new logo is in the development version
and
will be in the next release. Thanks again Cirrus!
