It's not really a bug, just that if you open Notepad2 directly and save the
file, it'll be saved without any extension by default.
The MS Notepad has the default TXT extension and will create a text file
everytime if a custom ext wasn't provided

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
All Files (*.*) instead of Text Documents (*.txt)

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Latest on XP SP3 32bit

That's not the case. The default extension is .txt if you don't specify one.
This is how it is by design and this is how it is in the official Notepad2.
There's nothing to fix, so "WontFix".

Doesn't work for me, the file will save just with the name i've typed and
without extension if I don't type one myself

That's not correct. The default behavior is that files are saved without
extension if you don't specify one (also in official Notepad2).

You can manually override this setting by setting the "DefaultExtension" in the
Settings2 section of the Notepad2.ini to an extension you wish (i.e.
"DefaultExtension=txt").

Well, it works for me fine on my system. The default extention is .txt without
specifying it.

I've tested this before i wrote the comment (with your build and the official)
and the behavior was as described. Don't know why this is different on your
system...

There must be an explanation but honestly I have tested it on Windows Vista and
7 and the .txt extension is added...
Anyway, this is how it is in the official so there's nothing I can do unless
someone provides a patch and even then I don't know if it will be added.

Thanks Volk, editing that line of the ini did it for me.
