Compass sometimes disappears (0.3.92) #73

What cartridge are you playing?

http://www.wherigo.com/cartridge/details.aspx?CGUID=d5760f01-1c38-4fed-9f50-0a62

What is your phone/PDA manufacturer and model? What GPS are you using?

Nokia E90 w/ internal GPS, SonyEricsson C702 w/ BT GPS both produced the issue.

What steps will reproduce the problem?

Stand still for a while and the compass will disappear since it is unsure
about the direction. Normally when you start to walk, it reappears again.
However sometimes it disappears forever and you have to restart the SW. In
this case the distance value is correctly displayed so the GPS data is
received. The issue is somewhere else.

What is the expected output? What happens instead?

See above.

If you see an error screen, please type its contents here:

What version are you using?

0.3.92

Please provide any additional information below.

Anyway it is far the most stable wherigo player nowadays, thanks! :)

are you saying that the arrow graphic is not visible at some point?

just to make it clear: the arrow should never "disappear", it should be always
visible, even though the direction info is unknown (it will just use the last
known
value)

i have a similar report that this happens on E51 with "internal gps" which uses
the
GSM positioning data. do you see the NSEW letters overlapped in the center when
this
happens?

Yes, exactly. The arrow graphic disappears and the blue NSEW letters are in the
center. Now tested with an N95 with internal + assisted GPS on. After half an
hour it
produced the issue.

okay, so when this happens, does the distance/azimuth label continue to change?
or do
you need to leave the navigation screen and open it again?

Yes, the distance/azimuth label changes, but the arrow graphic does not show up
again
even if I leave the navigation screen and go back again. This is when I have to
quit
the SW and restart. And there is the other case mentioned in my first post,
when the
arrow disappears for one second or two and reappears again. This seemed to occur
mainly when I was standing still that is why I thought it was a "feature".

i walked through the code about a million times and can't discover any reason
for this...

maybe it only happens on specific coordinates. can you send me a logfile from
some of
the situations where this happened?
