Synchronization doesn't work after working offline

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Connect to the network
2. Update all
3. Disconnect from the network and mark as working offline
4. Mark feeds as read and possibly mark some feeds with a flag.
5. Go back online, unflag working offline, and then update all

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Expected to see the feeds updated to reflect the changes done offline.
However, the changes aren't shown. 

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
1.4.4, PPC2003, Ipaq 2210, Cache stored on SD card.

Please provide any additional information below.
When working online then all the changes are updated to Google Reader as
you do them. It is only when working offline and then updating when coming
back to the network that synchronizing doesn't work.

(I realise that that the project is discontinued but if anyone has any
suggestions or picks this up at some point.)
