There is source code available for MT5931 wifi in 
http://www.sourcecodeprojects.com/1564302/ but you need to have invitation code 
to get that... Any idea could this be the answer to our problems with wifi?

I've found a Linux version of the MT5931 driver from Mediatek at this repo:
git://github.com/Anderxale/7300-kern.git

The folder of interest is at:
7300-kern/common/drivers/amlogic/wifi/mtk_5931/

Thanks, actually the latest Picuntu source is at github: 

https://github.com/aloksinha2001/picuntu-3.0.8-alok

it contains a new folder with another driver source, which also has 
instructions to bind it to the RK3066 machine description.
There is an open issue on this with some info:
