Add a Link to Blog #163

Probably the easiest way to do this is to add a setting in the admin
configuration to the location of a blog. That way, you can use an external or
internal blog. Then a link to the blog should be added to the navigation.

Chris will add an admin configuration for a blog link.

Aaron will set up a Wordpress blog, and a CNAME for blog.crisiscleanup.org

The blog is live (blog.crisiscleanup.org), and ready to be implemented on the
site- we should add a link to the home page, and add a configuration in the
admin panel for the blog link.

Looks good! Should the link be a tab at the top, e.g. next to HOME?

Yes. Let's put it to the right of "public map".

This is done, hard coded for the moment.

We also need a prominent link (at the top and/or in a sidebar) on all blog
pages back to the main website (so many blogs don't - common antipattern!)

Hmmm... I guess that didn't work (see attached image of nav bar scrolling to
second line). Let's take out "Contact Us" from the nav bar, and instead put an
icon of a letter next to the twitter icon in the top right (again, see attached
image), that links to /contact.

Thanks.

...and once Andy creates our Facebook Page, we'll want to add a Facebook icon
next to the Twitter icon, as well.

Chris- I added links from the blog back to crisiscleanup.org.

This is strange: The error in comment #6 happens when I am logged in, in
Firefox, but not when I am not logged in, in IE. See attached image.

Re #6: This behaviour is a deliberate behaviour of the responsive HTML+CSS
design template, I think - there's no width limit because it is meant to behave
differently based on your screen size.

An alternative that would keep the common and expected contact us link as it
is: replace "PUBLIC MAP" with "ASSESSMENT FORM" when the user is logged in?

CC Andy re design template

* There is no minimum width, but there is a maximum width. It looks like "Log
Out" takes up too much space.
* I'd prefer to take out "Contact Us" and replace it with a mail icon by the
twitter icon. (see comment 6)
* To save space, let's also rename "Public Map" to "Maps".

Looks good to me. Is the link to the blog hard-coded, or is the configurable
version in the Admin Panel somewhere?

Original comment by v...@aarontitus.net on 25 Mar 2013 at 6:10

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
It's hard-coded as it stands. Won't other parts of the design/HTML need to be
changed anyway, necessitating edits to the code base anyway?

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
Yeah, I guess so. There are higher priorities anyway, so I'm going to mark
this one as fixed.
