Film Festival #7

Michelle forwarded an e-mail to me from 350.org asking if we would be
interested in collaborating in a "climate change film festival" event with
them. The e-mail is as follows:

I'm with the 350.org group in Albuquerque--I don't think I got to meet you when
your SEEDS group endorsed our Divest UNM petition that we presented to the
Board of Regents in April. We are still collecting signatures and planning
future steps regarding the divestment idea, but we are also planning other
things.

In particular, we see the need to elevate the awareness on campus of climate
issues and barriers to progress. One project we are thinking about is some
kind of multi-faceted event this fall, maybe in the SUB, that has short films,
music, and short talks all interleaved and all about climate and taking action.
Tom Solomon mentioned to me that you guys have some thoughts about a film
festival, also, so let's talk!

One option I'm specifically looking at is the Wild and Scenic Film Festival,
which has a touring subset called "A Climate of Change," which includes 13
short films from 3 to 30 minutes long. The way I'm thinking about it, 350.org
would undertake the fundraising to pay for the tour to be presented here, and
student groups could be co-sponsors. In particular we are hoping to sign up
SEEDS and/or other student groups. If one or more of the student groups
applied for a grant, and were selected, we would get a discount of $750 (or
50%), which would make things much more doable from our side.

Another option might be to put together our own selection of films that might
not cost so much.

In either case, we'd like local musicians to provide entertainment between
films, and short presentations from the student groups and from 350 and maybe
other organizations. Do you know any musicians or bands that might want to
help? Someone who does songs about saving the planet (from ourselves)?

Sounds fun, but may be a lot of work!!! What does everyone think about
involvement in this project? I think it would be great to have
relations/involvement with other groups; community involvement and all that
jazz!!! Also it sound like the event itself would be fun!
