Need "Check No." Field

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Go to Apply a payment. Need a "Check No." field.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
There is no output because no field is there.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
20070525 stable

Please provide any additional information below.

This would be useful as clients will pay for multiple invoices with one
payment. A lot of users have clients that have an "account" and pay once a
month or so.

my initial thought was that you could put this info in the notes section of the 
payment

is this field/section not adequate for your needs?
