loading/drawing temporal display is slow

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. go to http://kraken.shore.mbari.org/canon/stoqs_september2013_t/query/

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
expect to see spatial map and temporal display completed in about 20 seconds. 
Instead it takes 2 minutes

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system? mac os x 
using Firefox

This came to be through the process of appending data to existing activities 
which resulted in hundreds of activities and a very large JSON response for the 
Flot plot. The campaign has been reloaded and now performs acceptably. A new 
issue (https://code.google.com/p/stoqs/issues/detail?id=28) has been posted to 
address the data append issue.
