spatial map display very slow to complete

What steps will reproduce the problem?

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
the spatial map and temporal display take about 2 minutes to load. However, 
there is a spinning disc with "loading" in the center that continues to spin 
for many many minutes

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
firefox on mac os x.

Please provide any additional information below.

This came to be through the process of appending data to existing activities 
which resulted in hundreds of activities and a very large map file for 
mapserver to process. The campaign has been reloaded and now performs 
acceptably. A new issue (https://code.google.com/p/stoqs/issues/detail?id=28) 
has been posted to address the data append issue.
